When two squirrels invited themselves to live in my attic, I went on a quest to figure out what they were doing. When I knocked on the ceiling and they scratched back, I was hooked. I began imagining what they thought and felt, and The Bravest Squirrel Ever was born. Although my attic is currently squirrel-free, the squirrels outnumber the humans in my neighborhood and could decide to take over at any moment. I watch for signs of invasion as I plot my next story of squirrel bravery.

When I'm not obsessing about squirrels, I love the sport of auto racing. That and my son's dream of being a race car driver led me to write about Sam's adventures driving a kart. I love Sam's story so much I can't wait to continue the saga with the stories of his kart racing friends and siblings.

In between writing stories of squirrel bravery, I am writing the story of a twelve-year-old boy who swaps bodies with a race car superstar, titled How to be a Rich, Famous, and Totally Awesome Race Car Driver. I can be reached at sarashafer@rocketmail.com.
